Frequently Asked Questions
Here, you’ll find the answers to the most pressing questions around the redevelopment of the Citadel Leisure Centre.
If your query isn’t answered here, you can email citadelrefurb@south-ayrshire.gov.uk or call 01292 269 793 for further information.
Will the facility close during the refurbishment?
The facility as a whole will remain open for the duration of the works. Disruption to services and circulation areas will be minimised where possible and our dedicated customer microsite will contain the most up to date developments.

Can I still park at the Citadel while works are carried out?
Yes, there will still be parking available at the Citadel, though the number of parking bays will be reduced to make space for the Robertson Construction Compound. Visitors who struggle to find parking at the Citadel can explore on-street parking on South Harbour Street, or the free parking on Cromwell Road, which is only a 5 minute walk.
When will the sauna reopen?
The sauna suite at Citadel Leisure Centre is being fully refurbished as part of the development of our new spa facilities. We currently anticipate the new spa facilities opening in Summer 2027. As the works progress, timescales may be subject to change, and we are not yet able to confirm an exact reopening date. We’re excited about the new spa and sauna facilities and look forward to welcoming customers back when they are ready.
What will happen to school swimming during the refurbishment?
School swimming at Citadel Leisure Centre is currently paused while the wet changing facilities are being refurbished. We are working closely with the schools affected and will continue to provide regular updates as the works progress. Once the facilities are available again, we will work with schools to support the return of school swimming and do our best to accommodate school years and swimming blocks that have been missed during the refurbishment. We appreciate the patience and understanding of schools and look forward to welcoming them back to the Citadel.
